Overview

Contemporary Mythology — also called Mythologie Contemporaine — is a history-of-ideas project about the myths that organize modern life.

The project asks what replaces older religious, civic, and metaphysical narratives in contemporary culture. It studies the stories, images, ideals, fears, and symbolic structures through which people understand technology, success, selfhood, love, politics, progress, and meaning.
